How to Use a Spelling Bee Solver Without Spoiling the Puzzle
A Spelling Bee solver can teach you, not just give answers. Use it in 4 levels, from light hints to full answers, and learn new words each time.

Key takeaways
- A Spelling Bee solver lists every word you can make from the seven letters.
- Use it in levels: totals, then Hints only, then one letter, then full answers.
- Hints only mode shows word counts and two-letter starts without spoilers.
- Press Play these letters to turn any hive into a custom puzzle.
A Spelling Bee solver can find every word in a hive in under a second. That’s useful, but it can also ruin the fun if you jump straight to the answers. The trick is to use it in levels, taking only as much help as you need.
How the solver works
On our Spelling Bee Solver, you type the center letter in the yellow box and the six outer letters in any order, then press Find words. The solver checks your letters against almost 30,000 English words and shows:
- the total number of words, points and pangrams
- every word grouped by length, with its point value
- pangrams highlighted in yellow
- rare words marked separately (valid English, but often left out of daily puzzles)
You can filter by first letter, sort by length, points or A–Z, and copy the list.

Level 1: Totals only
Before you look at anything else, check just the summary: how many words, how many points, how many pangrams. Knowing “there are 3 pangrams” is enough to send you back to the game with a clear target.
Level 2: Hints only
Switch to Hints only. You’ll see two things:
- Words by length (for example: 4 letters × 18, 5 letters × 12)
- Two-letter starts (for example: TR × 3, MA × 2)
This is the same kind of hint grid many players use for the NYT puzzle. Compare it with your found words and you’ll know exactly where to look. Most players can reach Genius from here without seeing a single answer.

Level 3: One letter at a time
Still stuck? Switch back to all words but filter by one first letter. Pick the letter where you’re missing the most words, look at only that group, and close the solver. You keep the rest of the puzzle to yourself.
Level 4: Full answers
When you’re done for the day, open the full list. This is where the learning happens: read the words you missed and say each one out loud. Tap any word to open its dictionary definition. Words you’ve looked up once are much easier to spot next time.
Turn solved letters into practice
With seven different letters entered, press Play these letters. The solver opens them as a custom puzzle in Spelling Bee Unlimited, so you can replay a hive you struggled with and see how many words you remember.
When to reach for the solver
- After you’ve reached your own limit, not before.
- For learning at the end of a session.
- For checking whether a word you thought of is valid.
Pair the solver with a solid routine and you’ll need it less over time. Start with our Spelling Bee strategy guide, and if you’re stuck one rank short, read how to get from Amazing to Genius.
Frequently asked questions
Is using a Spelling Bee solver cheating?
It depends on your goal. If you want to learn, using hints after you've tried on your own is a smart way to improve. If you're competing with friends, agree on the rules first.
Does the solver work for the NYT Spelling Bee?
Yes. Enter the center letter and the six outer letters from any puzzle. A few uncommon words may not be accepted by the official game, so they're marked as rare.
What does Hints only mode show?
It shows how many words there are of each length and how many start with each two-letter pair, without showing the words themselves.
