Spelling Bee Words List: The Answers That Come Up Most Often
A Spelling Bee words list built from 2,000 puzzles: the 4-, 5-, 6- and 7-letter answers that appear most often, common pangrams, and how to use them.

Key takeaways
- Words built from only two or three different letters appear in far more puzzles than other words.
- NOON, NINE, TINT and DEED are among the most frequent 4-letter Spelling Bee words.
- INNING, TATTOO and NOTION lead the 6-letter list; ONGOING and GAINING lead 7 letters.
- Learning these repeat answers is the fastest way to raise your average score.
The Spelling Bee words that appear most often are short words made of only two or three different letters, like NOON, NINE and TINT. A word like that fits any hive containing its letters, so it shows up again and again. We generated 2,000 puzzles and counted how often each answer appeared. Here are the lists, and how to use them.
Why some words appear so often
Only 3% of our 16,662 answers use three or fewer different letters. Yet among the 100 most frequent answers, two-thirds do. A word such as DEED needs just D and E, so it’s valid in every hive that has both, with either as the center letter. A word such as BALCONY needs seven specific letters, so it’s valid in only one hive.
The takeaway: once you know the common repeat words, you can bank points in the first minute of almost every puzzle.

Most common 5-letter words
